Collage
Key Concepts
Together we will learn about these fundamental building blocks of collage
- Basics: Artists use pictures, fabric, paper, scraps of old artwork, found objects and more to create collage. They layer materials, sometimes hiding parts and revealing others, to tell a story or express ideas in their artwork.
- Composition: Artists think about how the pieces of their collage fit together like a puzzle. They use things like balance, contrast, repetition, shape and more to make their artwork interesting and effective.
- Color: Artists choose colors for specific reasons. Colors in a collage might represent emotions, a sports team, a childhood blanket, a favorite season, and more.
- Technique: Artists create collage with additive methods like overlapping and layering. They also use subtractive methods like ripping, cutting things out, and hole punching.
